Alasdair Banks ‘Major League’ Original Art
Alasdair Banks is a professional artist based in Glasgow, Scotland, best known for his large and expressionistic interpretations of horse racing. He strives to capture energy, movement and drama in his work and has developed a distinctive style that is unique in the genre of contemporary equine art.
Use of colour is one of the most striking aspects of Alasdair’s equine collection. Horses frequently storm out of a bright blue or hot red base, conveying the passion and power of the sport they are involved in.” Amelia Brook, Equestrio Magazine
About The Artist:
Alasdair was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and studied drawing and painting at Edinburgh College of Art. From there he involved himself in Arts Management, part-time lecturing and curation of exhibitions.
During this time he began producing large charcoal and pastel works based around sporting events, with an emphasis on equine sports. These dynamic and energetic works would prove to be unique in a field traditionally dominated by photo-realistic styles.
An initiative with Olympia International Show Jumping in 2000 was followed by prestigious residencies, often with public interaction at their core. Creating art in front of an audience would become a vital part of Alasdair’s development as an artist and led to him creating Fine Art Live.
A three year association with Lloyds Banking Group saw him present live art events including Monet at the Savoy, Leonardo (Museum of Wales), and the Edinburgh Festival. Residencies at Glorious Goodwood and The Festival of Speed followed, challenging both his stamina and creativity, as he produced large paintings outdoors and under the public gaze.
In recent years creative partnerships with Aston Martin, Volvo and Lotus have raised his Motorsport profile and he is currently working with The Jim Clark Trust as their Resident Artist.
